Anxiety: How to Finally Heal ("Ode to Anxiety")

Updated: Nov 24, 2023

When I’m chronic, people may become hypersensitive, tense and agitated.

They can feel edgy, restless, and sometimes alert.

They may endeavour to be busy not realising they just don’t like how I make them feel when they relax.

When I’m around, their minds live in the future. They constantly think about what’s next or what they need to do and say.

Wherever I go, I always bring Time with me. He always make them feel like they don’t have enough.

Sometimes when people experience me, they don’t recognise me for me.

When I'm very intense, people often mistake me for a Heart Attack.

When I’m bad I’m really bad, and people think they’re losing their mind.

They’re often tired yet wired, and deep sleep is impossible.

Coffee and alcohol are my two best mates who always encourage me.

When I’m chronic, I stop people from being present. I keep them distracted and watch on as they procrastinate.

Instead of letting them read or enjoy a conversation, I’ll tell them stories about all the things that could happen but never will.

I scare people from saying what they want or from doing what they desire in life.

When people first learn about me, they often think I only live in their mind. They don’t realise that I can’t exist without the body.

People often identify with me, but I don't belong to anyone.

You can't have me because I constantly change and evolve.

I live in unresolved trauma and unprocessed emotion.

I make appearances when you go through big life hurdles or changes.

I stay around when your nervous system doesn't know how to relax.

But if you try, I’ll protest.

If you take pills to try and erase me, I'll still exist.

You can’t run from me because I’m part of the human experience.

To dissolve me, you have to be with me.

Healing me requires accepting me,

Taming me means facing me,

And thriving from me demands knowing me intimately.

People think I’m evil but they really just don’t know me.
